While Remodeling, Make Your Home More Energy Efficient Malibu

Local Chimney Cleaning Malibu — In 2005, Americans spent nearly $215 billion upgrading their houses, according to the National Association of Homebuilders. So, if you’re thinking about renovating, keep one thing in mind: making your home more energy efficient while remodeling can pay off.

In some cases, projects that provide more energy efficiency have proven to help reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 15%,” says Danny Lipford, a homebuilding expert and host of the television show “Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford,” “and homeowners are putting extra emphasis on energy cost savings when remodeling their homes.”

According to Lipford, homeowners should look for any and all ways to make their homes energy efficient and moisture resistant. He advises that you ask the contractor a lot of questions early on in the remodeling process. Find out where he thinks you can maximize energy savings, where energy can be lost during a renovation, how to protect against potential weather damage and if he plans to use innovative products such as DuPont Tyvek Weatherization Systems Products that can help save energy while protecting your home.

Lipford suggests three important zones as those to work on to decrease energy costs:

ZONE #1: The Attic

By adopting revolutionary building materials like DuPont Tyvek AtticWrap, attic insulation can result in significant energy savings, lowering heating and cooling expenditures. As Lipford points out, “some of the most successful solutions for making homes more efficient are the ones you can’t see and should be focused on at an early stage of the remodeling process.”

ZONE #2: The Walls

Contractors can put a house wrap under the siding during construction, such as DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap, which fulfills ENERGY STAR criteria. The wrap acts as a windbreaker, covering the walls, doors, and windows with a protective skin. By keeping outside air and water out while allowing moisture to escape, house wrap can help reduce heating and cooling costs. Homes are more subject to exterior degradation, air and water intrusion, and perhaps mold if they do not have a good house wrap.

ZONE #3: The Windows

Vinyl windows have become one of the most popular solutions for enhanced energy efficiency and moisture management, especially when flashed appropriately and placed with insulated glass panels.
