Professional Housecleaning’s Dirty Little Secret Woodland Hills
Chimney Sweep Cleaning Woodland Hills — I’m writing this essay because I’m sick of all the books out there that claim it’s easy to start a cleaning business. I’m not saying that everything they say is correct, but let’s be honest about how “easy” it is to get started.
Every professional cleaner confronts a nasty little secret that no one talks about in the cleaning industry. Even if you purchase one of the books on how to establish your own cleaning service, they will not address this issue and are likely unaware of its existence. Why aren’t they aware of its existence? Because the book was written by a business professional rather than a cleaning professional.
To share the blame, I’ll be forthright and admit that even professional cleaners remain silent on the subject. And I’m not sure why; are they in denial, do they choose to ignore it, or are they determined to maintain their status in society?
What is the nasty little secret that no one mentions? The problem is that most people who hire someone to clean their homes assume you’re cleaning because you can’t think of anything better to do and that you’ll labor for pennies.
Okay, I’ve said it. It’s now public since I believe it’s an important topic that everyone should be aware of before beginning a cleaning business. Those who are currently cleaning must also recognize the problem and understand that there is a solution.
And once you’ve learned about it, don’t let it stop you from expanding your business; instead, understand how to cope with it so you can succeed.
Because I founded and built my own house cleaning service into a firm with teams of people, I have a lot of experience with this topic. And I didn’t establish the company and recruit cleaning staff right away. I launched the company and cleaned all of the rooms personally.
I had been self-employed in the computer business, consulting for large corporations on software design and development. Because you’re on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and must repair software problems right away, this is a difficult field. I was burned out after 18 years of doing this and needed a change.
Because I always had my house cleaned by experts, I decided to establish a house cleaning service. I was also dissatisfied with the work’s quality. I had a good understanding of what customers wanted and thought I could develop a business around it.
I had no trouble writing the advertisements and bidding on jobs because of my business and technological expertise. In reality, I was hired for 98 percent of the jobs I expected to get. When I arrived to clean, I was greeted with whole different reaction from my new client than when we met for the estimate.
They suddenly decided that I needed to be watched while cleaning. They also believed they could request and receive additional work for the original quote I provided. Imagine my astonishment when they told me what I’d be cleaning on their next visit!
I had always handled the cleaners who worked for me with professionalism. As a result, it took me some time and a few customers to figure out what was going on and why. Other cleaners working alone would almost certainly fall into the same trap, and the customer would win.
I awoke from my clearly astonished daze, dug in my heels, and carried on with my business as intended. When I estimated a work, I found that the customer had to determine whether or not they wanted what my company had to offer, and I had to decide whether or not I wanted to clean for this customer.
I always asked new customers to sign a Service Agreement and used professional, unique company forms that I created. It was up to me to decide whether or not I wanted to deviate from my rule, not the consumer.
What occurred after that, do you recall? My business continued to expand, referrals continued to pour in, and I was no longer affected by this dirty little secret.
When I wrote The House Cleaning Pro, I packed it with all the essential information you’ll need to get started and grow your house cleaning business, including legalities, advertising, cleaning materials and equipment, and the precise cleaning processes I used for speed and quality. I did, however, include all of the ideas, methods, and secrets that I discovered that were not included in any of the books I found for sale.
I honestly feel that by knowing what to expect before entering a career for which they may not be completely prepared, any home cleaner may make a full-time living and enjoy their work.
